Projects & Measures

Ongoing Projects

  • Leadership LabFounded in 2017, Leadership Lab (LLab) focuses mainly on the following issues: (1) Why do people emerge and not emerge as leaders? Worries about leadership (WAL) is a new concept developed by Aycan to tackle the question of “why do individuals not nominate themselves for leadership positions?”. See, Aycan & Shelia (2019) paper for more details. Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s68B8P4CjeU, and (2) Why is there a disconnect between leadership emergence and leadership effectiveness literature. It is becoming more apparent now that those who emerge as leaders do not necessarily become effective in this role. Yet, the literature is silent about this gap.
  • From Culture of Power to Empowerment: A Model for Leadership and Culture ChangeThe “Power to Empowerment” model is developed by Aycan specifically for high power distant cultures. The next generation leaders in high power distant cultures should aim at transforming the culture to support empowerment. Aycan’s model proposes five ways to do that. This model is taught as a full-semester class at Koc University: ALIS 360: Next Generation Leadership: Transforming the Culture of Power to Empowerment. This model also guides the consulting work and corporate trainings.
